Galena Loafstone |
|
Size: 2 1/4" long x 1" wide x 1" tall.
Provenance: Woodford County, Kentucky. X: Sam Cox.
Condition: Excellent. These loafstones were used as atl-atl weights, and Galena(lead ore) was a favorite material b/c of its weight. This piece is extremely heavy for its size. Not easy to find a good atl-atl weight for less than $150. When I first started buying these pieces, they were not appreciated for their importance to the prehistoric man tool kit. Now, they are picked up whenever they become available.

Humped/Ridged Adze |
|
Size: 5 5/8" long x 2 1/2" wide
Provenance: Michigan, ex- Jon Nichols from Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Last sold at the Emil Baeumel Auction 11-3-1985
Condition: Excellent. Judging by the stickers on this piece and its provenance, this one was found a long time ago. There is some newer damage along the bit(it is very minor), but it reminds me of when kids play with the things they find. This is an extremely rare type. I have seen very few examples and they tend to only occur in the Upper Great Lakes States. If you collect stone tools, this is a rare opportunity to get your hands on one of these.
