Old Time Dearborn, Michigan Collection |
|
Size: Varies. Large blade in upper left is 5 1/2" long.
Provenance: Board of artifacts put together in 1930's from the Dearborn, MI area. I believe the farm had a large Adena structure as there are some classic Adena artifacts. Interestingly, Dearborn is basically a suburb of Detroit. Not much land in the area to find artifacts on these days.... Pieces were wired to the board, and I removed the copper wire and restrung everything with fishing line.
Condition: Museum Grade. This is a classic collection of no brainer artifacts with several pieces of high grade collector slate. The tube and the worm track pendant are two of the better slate objects I have sold. I could break up the collection and make some money, but feel it is better to keep the pieces together.

Very rare purple banded slate. I am not sure whether this is a pipe or a bannerstone. It is a collector grade piece. |

"The Snake" |
|
Size: Varies, longest is just shy of 3 inches. There are 129 pieces in the frame.
Provenance: Collected over a 15 year period by my good friend Mike Hollan. Pieces were chosen for their locality to Northern Kentucky/Southern Ohio. These pieces were cherry picked from numerous high quality Fort Ancient collections.
Condition: Museum. The shape of this display conforms loosely to the curves of Serpant Mound. I consider it a cross collectible that will attract the most discriminating artifact collector and general art lovers. This collection was put together slowly over time, and represents an outstanding achievement.
Price: $2000 for everything except 5 pieces near Fort Ancient pendant. $2500 for everything you see. |

I can take more pictures of individual pieces. This shot shows about 25 pieces. Notice the extremely high quality of each example. I strongly feel this collection is worth significantly more than the asking price if broken up and pieced out. However, the owner wants to sell them as a group, so that is what I am doing. |

3 Slate pieces - King Collection |
|
A very unique Glacial Kame gorget on left. Undrilled(it does have tap holes on the back side) expanded center gorget made of rare purple slate in the middle. Very long bi-concave gorget on right. This gorget is highly engraved throughout the piece.
I can take pics of any indvidual piece in this collection and can describe every piece in detail over a phone conversation. |

1920's New London, Ohio Farm Collection |
|
Size: Long Bi-Concave Gorget is 5 3/8".
Provenance: Perfect documentation from the finder. Discovered just West of New London, Ohio on the King farm in the 1920's. I purchased from the elderly Warner King close to 10 years ago. I have a long note about how he found the pieces over time. These pieces are almost all pictured in Lar Hothem's Ornamental Artifacts volume published a few years ago.
Condition: Museum Quality. This is from my personal collection. I have owned it with pride for some time and it is ready for a new home. These pieces are top shelf collector grade and are dripping with authenticity.

Paleo Blade - King Collection. |
|
This is the best one I have owned and have not seen many better. I have no idea what the material is, but some have suggested it is an almost black form of Flint Ridge. It is outstanding. Uniface side pictured. |

Flaked Side King Paleo Blade |
|
Everything is just so classic about this piece. Look at the perfect 45 degree bulb fracture on the back end. Any piece that is being sold as a paleo blade should have this trait. Flaking is other-wordly. |

Carter Cave Cobbs? |
|
Size: 4 1/4" long x 1 1/2" wide.
Provenance: Purchased from finder. Discovered on a high ridge top near the town of Summit, West Virginia.
Condition: Museum Quality. This is the total package. Absolutely perfect in all respects. Flaking, material, quality, size are all best of the best. I call it a cobbs, but the concave base and shape before resharpening(I am guessing to some extent) remind me of an ultra-rare Paleo Plano form that is almost made from high grade carter cave. See Ohio Flint Types by Robert Converse.

Sonora Pinetree |
|
Size: 2 3/4" long.
Provenance: Purchased from the grandson of the finder. Found near Xenia, Ohio(Almost above the Northern end of the distribution on Sonora). I have finder info and family information to buyer. COA'd by Tom Davis in the late 1990's.
Condition: Super. Zero damage with very delicate ears. There is a large quartz crystal on one side that the maker just worked into the piece(a very cool feature). The sonora is a choclate brown with blue swirls. Towards the center of the base, one of these blue inclusions wraps around like a vortex. The flash obscured the area, but I can re-picture it. This is the pinetree I have ever owned.

Fractured Base Dovetail - Rarest of all Dove forms |
|
Size: 2 7/8” long x 1 7/16” wide
Provenance: Found near Munfordville, KY by one of two Harrison brothers. 1950-1980 on the find years. I have some more family history if you want it. Bill Jackson COA from 2003.
Condition: Perfect. Fractured base dovetails are the most rare of all dove forms. There are two hard spots(quartz inclusions) near the tip on both sides of the point that the prehistoric knapper could not work off. He ended up beveling the top 1/2" area at a very steep angle. It has created a very unique resharpening pattern that I really enjoy. This piece was has been in my personal collection for a long time.
Price: ========== Reduced to $300. |

Hamilton County Lance |
|
Size: 3 3/8" long
Provenance: Found in the Big Miami Valley Hamilton County Ohio. This piece came from the same collection as the fluted points and is mentioned in the book The Archaeology of Hamilton County Ohio. X: Gene Schlosser(Cincinnati pioneer collector).
Condition: Museum. This lance has a few features worth mentioning here. It has a concave base that is more like an early Paleo piece, and a stem more like a late paleo piece. Call it a blending form. It is made of jet black material and is highly patinated and mineralized. It is also thin and extremely well made. Best lance I have ever owned.

Max Shipley Cobbs Blade |
|
Size: 5 1/4" long
Provenance: Franklin County, Ohio. Max Shipley auction 1/15/1989. Pictured on sale flier Page 76. Please be careful buying Max Shipley pieces, b/c lately unscrupolous folk are trying to pass fakes as Shipley pieces. If you ever have a question, email me. I have all the Shipley documentation.
Condition: Museum Grade. Was the maker attracted to the piece of flint b/c of the quartz vein? Did he purposefully place the vein on the piece down near the haft? Did he not care? Do I find it so great b/c of this feature? Seriously, one of the better cobbs you will see for sale. Pieces like this don't escape black holes often.
